Summer reading awards honor dedicated children, parents, sponsors

Toddlers, children and teenagers gathered at Daphne Public Library on July 16 for the Summer Reading Awards ceremony, where dedication to reading, family and sponsor support were rewarded.

Louise Youngblood, young-adult librarian, reported that teens had read 36,000 pages and 140 books during the program, while Children's Librarian Maria Baroco shared that children from Lapsit through Tween categories read 13, 408 pages and 4,473 books.

Daphne Mayor Dane Haygood presented winners with medals and certificates while Councilman Randy Fry handed out gift bags.

Winners are:

Teen category

First place: Ethan Martin

Second place: Lana Stringer

Third place: Corey O'Neal

Honorable mention: Abby Harris

Youth categories

Lapsit

First place: Noah Francis

Second place: Kimberly Miller

Preschool

First place: Mary Purvis

Second place: Jackson Wade

First place: Madison Johnson

Second place: Maddie Purvis
