SugarLove at the Hub brings food truck favorites and other dishes to Robertsdale

Posted

Some may know SugarLove for their food trucks at various events, but they also have a brick and mortar restaurant in the heart of Robertsdale.

SugarLove is a venture started 14 years ago by husband and wife duo Lauren and Brandi Stallworth. Brad and Alicia Giles eventually joined forces with the Stallworths with their sushi truck. Brandi said they were looking for a commissary for their second food truck when the opportunity for a stand-alone restaurant came about at 18427 Ohio St.

“The cool thing is about the restaurant here in the middle of Robertsdale is (Brad and Alicia) had a following for the sushi truck and then we had a following for our food truck, so it was able to bring a lot more people that knew about the food trucks to come eat here as well,” Brandi Stallworth said.

While some of the food they serve on the food truck is also served in the restaurant, what makes the restaurant differ is that they can serve plated meals to their customers, with one example being the “Bone and Bourbon,” a pork chop with a bourbon glaze.

Other menu items include tacos, burgers and dishes such as stuffed chicken marsala and the “Monte Cristo,” a sandwich with ham, turkey, Swiss and American cheese stacked between three pieces of bread and deep fried in beignet batter. It is served with powdered sugar and raspberry jam for dipping. They also have sushi nights on Mondays and Tuesdays, when they serve the full menu alongside sushi.

SugarLove also has an extensive dessert menu, including bananas foster, brownie lasagna, crème brûlée and “Cookie Therapy,” an oversized, broken chocolate chip cookie topped with two scoops of vanilla ice cream along with chocolate ganache, house-made caramel and a cherry on top.

“We want to be somewhere that people can stop in, even if they’ve already had dinner somewhere or they’re out at a ballgame, they’re like, ‘We just want dessert,’” Brandi Stallworth said. “We want to be somewhere that people will stop for dessert because I’m always looking for that and there’s not anywhere to get just dessert or somewhere locally that we can just run in and get cookie ice cream and stuff like that. I’m a dessert person so that’s where that comes from.”

SugarLove at the Hub is open from 4 to 9 p.m. five days a week and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
