GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Lower Alabama Parrot Heads have completed a successful 2008. In 2007, Parrot Head clubs, with more than 200 chapters in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Caribbean and Australia, donated more than $2.9 million and more than 182,000 volunteer hours to various beneficiaries.
The Lower Alabama Parrot Heads will add to the 2008 total with more than $6,000 dollars and more than 550 volunteer hours donated to local organizations. Recipients of these proceeds include the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, the Volunteer Fire Departments of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, the National Shrimp Festival, the Coastal Cleanup, the MS Bike Tour, Toys for Boys and Girls (Orange Beach Ladies Auxiliary), Baldwin Animal Rescue Center (BARC), Mary’s Shelter, Home of Grace and the Ecumenical Ministries.
A big “Phins” up to all the members of the Lower Alabama Parrot Heads. The Lower Alabama Parrot Heads are continuing to support the local community in 2009. A successful Stars Fell on Alabama, which drew over 450 Parrot Heads to the Gulf Coast, was recently concluded. The beneficiaries of this event include the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and the Volunteer Fire Departments of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Other scheduled events include, Kaiser Realty’s “Cycling the Coast for a Cure”. the MS Boarder Bash, BARC’s “Dog Gone Scramble” golf tournament and the National Shrimp Festival.
