Storyteller to speak in Foley Thursday

FOLEY, Ala. — Foley Public Library is gearing up for a bevy of activity this month, which kicks off with the annual Friends of the Foley Public Library Potluck Dinner this week.

According to Library Director John Jackson, the event will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at Foley Civic Center.

“We’ve got an interesting speaker,” he said.

Jackson explained that storyteller Dolores Hydock will present the evening’s program, “Every Picture Tells a Story: the Storytelling of Norman Rockwell.”

A storyteller from Birmingham, Hydock grew up in Reading, Penn. According to information at StoryPower.org, she started storytelling at age 5, when she won a blue ribbon in a local storytelling contest. Since then, she has been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough and other festivals. She also served as teller-in-residence at the International Storytelling Center and as won Resource Awards from Storytelling World magazine for her nine CDs of original stories.

This is not Hydock’s first presentation to Foley Public Library patrons. She last came to the Forward City in 2012, spinning a Christmas-themed tale for the audience.

Jackson added that Thursday’s program will also include representatives of FOL speaking about the group.

The public is welcome to participate and bring a dish to share. For more information, call Foley Public Library at 251-943-7665 or visit FoleyLibrary.org.
