FAIRHOPE, Ala. - StoryCorps, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to recording, sharing, and preserving the stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs, will record interviews in Pensacola from December 15 -23 as part of its efforts to collect Gulf Coast stories about the impact of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill.
The group has partnered with WUWF, Pensacola’s NPR station, to collect 45 interviews with residents in the Pensacola area of South Alabama and Northwest Florida, according to a StoryCorps news release.
StoryCorps’ MobileBooth—an Airstream trailer outfitted with a recording studio— will be parked in front of the Gov. Perry Home at the corner of Palafox Avenue and Wright Street for nine days.
Reservations can be made by calling StoryCorps’ 24-hour, toll-free reservation line at 1-800-850-4406 or by visiting storycorps.org.
The public radio station at 88.1 FM will air a selection of local interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth. Segments of select interviews may also air nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition.
With participant permission, all StoryCorps interviews will be archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
WUWF Public Media will host an opening day event on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 to introduce the StoryCorps oil spill project to the community. Opening remarks for the program begin at 11:45 a.m., including tours of the group’s MobileBooth.
