BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Former Mobile County Commissioner Stephen Nodine’s intentional felony murder trial is expected to begin 24 hours after the conclusion of the capital murder trial of Troy Robert MacDonald, according to Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb.
Baldwin County Circuit Judge Charles Partin, who is hearing both cases, ordered the timetable early today. Jury selection for the MacDonald trial began this morning and is expected to be completed by noon tomorrow, with opening statements from the prosecution and defense tomorrow afternoon.
Defense attorneys said the trial should last through Tuesday of next week.
Jurors for Nodine’s trial will be selected from a pool of more than 200 Baldwin County residents summoned today to the Baldwin County Courthouse in Bay Minette, Newcomb said.
Nodine was indicted in October on charges of intentional felony murder, stalking and ethics violations related to the shooting death of Angel Downs on Mother’s Day at her Gulf Shores residence.
