The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s “Steel Across America” tour, a nationwide tribute marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, will stop in Mobile on May 25 at 11 a.m. at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
The national nonprofit, which supports first responders, military service members, veterans and their families, is inviting the Mobile community to gather in remembrance, honor those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks and recognize those who continue to serve.
The stop is part of a coast-to-coast tour running from May 2 through Sept. 11 that will carry a steel beam recovered from the South Tower of the World Trade Center more than 10,000 miles across the country. The artifact will be displayed at more than 30 cities, giving visitors an opportunity to view it up close, hear firsthand accounts and take part in educational programming focused on the legacy of 9/11.
In Mobile, the event will include a ceremonial tribute to the steel beam followed by remarks from Tunnel to Towers Foundation representatives and members of the local community. Local catering will be provided.
The Foundation was established in memory of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, whose legacy continues to guide its mission of supporting those who serve and protect.
The “Steel Across America” initiative is designed to ensure future generations remember the events of 9/11 and the sacrifices made in its aftermath while honoring the lives lost.
