GULF SHORES, Ala. — St. Andrew’s Women, a group from St. Andrew-by-the-Sea Church, has given the Christian Service Center a donation to help with the coming holiday season. Many of the SAW members are also volunteers at CSC and are aware of some of the difficulties the CSC Food Pantry has faced recently.
In the past the CSC Food Pantry has been able to inexpensively purchase many staple food items, like beans, crackers and powdered milk, from the Bay Area Food Bank in Mobile. However, for the past several months the Food Bank has had very few staple items available. So, the CSC Food Pantry has to purchase these items from area grocery stores at regular prices, depleting an already lean budget. Understanding the need, St. Andrew’s Women graciously shared the proceeds of a recent fundraiser with the Center.
In its 22nd year, the Christian Service Center is a “Hand Up” rather than a “Hand Out” agency. Clients are given immediate emergency aid as well as guidance on finding solutions to problems. The CSC is a 100% volunteer agency funded by the churches of Pleasure Island and various community organizations.
