Spring Walk and Roll to School Day to be held across Baldwin County on Earth Day, April 22

Posted

Spring Walk and Roll to School Day is just around the corner, and eight schools in Baldwin County have confirmed participation in the April 22 event.

Organized through the Baldwin County Safe Routes to School Coalition, the initiative promotes safe, coordinated travel while also giving students the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and observe the seasonal changes in their neighborhoods.

Falling on Earth Day, this year’s event serves as a natural backdrop for exploration.

Participating schools in Baldwin County, according to a press release on the event, include Daphne East Elementary, Fairhope West Elementary, Florence B. Mathis Elementary (May 1), Foley Elementary, Gulf Shores City Schools, Orange Beach Elementary, St. Patrick Catholic School and Summerdale School.

Each participating school will host its own Walk and Roll event, with details tailored to their campus. Families, students and school staff typically gather at a designated meeting point, usually within one mile of the school. From there, the group travels to school together, creating a fun and supportive group commute.

Interested in participating? Contact your local school for specific event details, meet at the designated spot and come prepared to walk, bike or roll together to the school.

Whether participating directly or cheering from the sidelines, community members are encouraged to support the effort and help make a positive impact.

National Walk and Roll to School Day is recognized on the first Wednesday of every October, and many Baldwin County schools participate in the fall. As previously reported by GCM, similar fall and spring events are celebrated internationally.
