Speed reduction considered at Holly Hills Country Club

Posted

BAY MINETTE — The Baldwin County Highway Department has received a request from residents of Holly Hills to consider setting the speed limit on Country Club Drive at 25 mph. Country Club Drive is on U.S. Highway 31 south of Bay Minette.

The road is not posted. But the statutory speed limit is 45 mph. This speed limit is not appropriate due to the existence of the Holly Hills Golf Course that crosses over Country Club Drive at two locations, and the road is residential, according to county documents.

A traffic study was conducted showing the average daily traffic at 40 vehicles a day. The 85th percentile speed was 31 mph and the average speed was 23 mph. Based on the traffic study it was determined that 25 mph would be appropriate.

This road is in the police jurisdiction of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department. Baldwin County Commissioners reviewed the speed limit changes today during a work session in Robertsdale.
