Spanish Fort’s got talent

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Spanish Fort residents wouldn’t have had to search for TV’s “America’s Got Talent” to hear powerful voices or a piano’s ivories tickled.

The arts took center stage at Fitzpen Place Saturday as the entertainment venue hosted its inaugural talent show.

From alto sax and guitar arrangements to a cappella vocal solos, 19 performances  yielded winners in five categories each of whom took home $100.

“There were some very interesting performances,” said Charlotte Thigpen-Carlson, owner of the Spanish Fort facility that hosts everything from weddings and anniversary parties to school events and business seminars.

In the instrumental solo category for ages 6-12, winner Lisa Tang played “Opus 4 No. 1, Rondo Grazioso” on the piano.

Savannah Ekelund won the same category in the 13-18 age range for her piano arrangement of “By the Sea.”

In the vocal solo category for ages 6-12, Olivia Kane won for her a cappela version of “Thumbelina.”

Zoe Woods won in the same category in the 13-18 age range for singing and playing  “Home” on the piano.

Meanwhile, Foolish Nonsense took top honors in the group performance category for its rendition of Mudhoney’s grunge hit “Touch Me I’m Sick.”
