Spanish Fort senior outfielder Pierce Dutton announced he will be taking his talents to the Shelton State Community College baseball team after his final season with the Toros.
He’ll join the Alabama Community College Conference that will feature a host of his former teammates on rosters this season.
Parker Reimensnyder (Bishop State), Caden Jacobs (Wallace State-Hanceville), Cole Morton and Skyler Smith (Marion Military Institute) and Keegan Hamp and Hayden Hill (Coastal Alabama-South), all of whom were members of Spanish Fort’s Class of 2022, announced their commitments to ACCC schools this past year.
They were joined by other classmates Matthew Thompson (Troy), Trey Fenderson (Presbyterian), Aaron Threat (Huntingdon) and Jackson Ray (Henderson State) in continuing their careers at the collegiate level.
As a junior, Dutton helped the Toros to a 22-18 overall record where they finished second in Class 6A Area 2 and swept Opileka in the first round of the playoffs. According to unofficial stats from Joey Warner and the Mobile Baseball Connection, Dutton helped lead the way offensively with a .405 average, 45 hits, 29 RBIs, 29 hits and 31 stolen bases.
This summer, he was one of a slew of local players who competed at Prep Baseball Report’s Alabama All-State games at Troy University.
Dutton recorded a 60-yard dash time of 7.07 seconds with a max speed of 19.9 mph to go along with a 27.2-inch vertical and a jump power score of 1,575. At the plate, he registered a max hand speed of 26.8 mph and a max bat speed of 81.8 mph.
Last season, Shelton State finished with a 34-22 overall record and a 25-7 mark in the conference for a first-place seed in the Region XXII tournament. There, however, the Bucs fell to Coastal Alabama-South and Wallace State-Hanceville to find the end of the road.
