The Alabama State Hornet football program received an in-state commitment from Spanish Fort senior Bree Blackmon, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound offensive lineman after a gameday visit this weekend.

“All the glory goes to God. Thank you to my parents and my coaches for pushing me to be the best version of me,” Blackmon wrote on social media Sunday. “Also thank you to Coach Nelson and Coach Browning for giving me the opportunity to continue my academic and playing career at Alabama State University.”

Alabama State was the first to offer Blackmon on April 25 before he competed at a summer camp on July 22. Blackmon was on campus this weekend for the Hornets’ overtime battle against the Alcorn State Braves.

He’ll likely have a familiar face on the roster in the form of Zachariah Hixon who is suiting up for his freshman year this season. Alabama State dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

Blackmon’s senior season in Spanish Fort has picked up where the Toros improved to 4-2 with a non-region rivalry win over Daphne on Friday. Spanish Fort’s 35-point effort helped the offense check in at No. 20 in Class 6A among teams that have played at least six games with 122 points for an average of 20.3 per game.

The offensive line has paved the way for 1,888 total yards between 1,117 rushing yards on the ground and 771 passing yards through the air with 15 total touchdowns. Blackmon has recorded 17 of the unit’s 65 total pancakes.

The Toros are set to resume region play this week against the St. Paul’s Saints back at home Friday night.
