SPANISH FORT, Ala.—The spirit of giving flourished across Spanish Fort during the Christmas season with several hundred toys donated to a variety of causes.

Although final tallies were not available for every group that hosted a drive, Spanish Fort Middle School, alone, donated 301 toys.

The SFMS Beta Club and Student Government Association hosted the drive with Shannon Snow's homeroom class taking top honors for collecting 114 toys, or more than one-third of the school's donation to Toys for Tots. Snow's homeroom will receive a pizza party for its contribution.

Meanwhile, Beverly Floyd's homeroom collected 29 toys, and Jennifer Fyock's homeroom collected 21 gifts. The second- and third-place contributors will each receive a cookie party.

On the other side of town, 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center collected 30 toys for WKRG's Great Toy Drive.

"It may not sound like a lot, but it's better than we did last year, and there were two bicycles in the mix," said 5 Rivers Manager Hank Burch. "We also collected about 15 blankets and some pet food for the Haven and a box full of canned foods for the food drive. This time of year, especially, every little bit counts."
