SPANISH FORT, Alabama — The Spanish Fort Toros will host a familiar foe in tonight’s Class 5A football semifinal game on “The Hill” at Spanish Fort High.

No. 4 Spanish Fort (12-1) welcomes No. 7 St. Paul’s (11-2) tonight at 7 p.m. with a trip to the Class 5A state championship game in Auburn next week on the line.

The Region 1 rivals previously met Oct. 5 when the Saints took a 31-21 win over the Toros at Spanish Fort. The last time these two met in the playoffs, the Toros won 21-12 and eventually won the 5A state championship after falling to the Saints in the regular season.

The game features two of south Alabama’s premier quarterbacks in Spanish Fort’s Joel Poe and St. Paul’s Bradley Padgett. Poe has completed 180-of-270 passes for more than 2,800 yards and 36 touchdowns, while Padgett has passed for 1,365 yards and 17 touchdowns. Saints running back Jordan Huff has rushed for 960 yards and 16 touchdowns, including two against the Toros in the first meeting.

The Toros average more than 40 points per game, while the Saints score 32.8 per game. Saint Paul’s is 1-0 overall on the road in the semifinal round, while the Toros have never hosted a semifinal game. The Toros are 1-1 in the round, with a win over McAdory in 2010 and a loss at Demopolis in 2009.

St. Paul’s holds a 6-2 lifetime record against the Toros.

The game will be broadcast live on the radio on WNSP FM-105.5 and will be shown in a tape-delay broadcast on WTJC UTV-44 on Saturday at 7 p.m.
