SPANISH FORT, Ala.—As though Rebecca Womack didn’t have enough on her plate this past weekend singing the National Anthem at the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl, the Spanish Fort High School junior also took first place in the school’s chocolate cook-off Friday.
Family and consumer science teacher Dianne Bernasconi said judges had the “tough job” of tasting 17 competing confections, but Womack’s frozen mocha cheesecake took the top prize.
“Rebecca will go to the county cook-off at 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at Spanish Fort Middle School,” Bernasconi said, adding, “The FACS lab was exploding with aromas of chocolate. The decisions were not easy.”
Brittany Smith’s dulce de leche cake placed second, and Calley Sholder’s chocolate-covered bacon placed third. Yes, chocolate-covered bacon.
Womack is a student in Joni Ojard’s Food Dynamics class, and all contestants are students in the family and consumer science department.
