Spanish Fort Elementary School student places second in State Reflections contest

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Spanish Fort Elementary School’s Justin LaJesse has placed second in the State Reflections competition.

LaJesse’s musical composition entry was one of 10 first-place SFES projects to advance to the state level. He also placed first in the intermediate division for third- through fifth-graders at the school level in photography and film production as well as second in literature.

The Reflections program is sponsored each year by the National PTA and recognizes students for achievements in the creative arts. State-level winners in the categories of visual arts, photography, literature, musical composition, film production and dance choreography will be considered for national recognition.

Becca Walden, a former teacher and mother of two SFES students, said LaJesse was one of the most prolific SFES entrants during the 2010-11 competition with the “Together We Can…” theme.

“This program gives students the opportunity to express themselves through art and music and be competitive at the same time,” Walden said.

LaJesse is a fourth-grader in Misty Wilkinson’s class.
