MOBILE – The Spanish Fort Toros defeated the Murphy Panthers 5-2 in the Hank Aaron Classic on Saturday.
The Toros were led by starting pitcher Patrick McGavin, who struck out seven batters in five innings to get the win while going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Aaron Burdick picked up the save for the Toros, who improved to 2-2 on the season with the win.
Spanish Fort scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Logan Rogers scored on a single by Wes Runnels. McGavin drove in Runnels on a double, and Burdick drove in McGavin with another double.
The Toros added another run in the bottom of the fourth. McGavin drove in Rogers on a double. In the bottom of the fifth, Daniel Sawyer drove in Burdick for Spanish Fort’s fifth run.
Daphne beats BCHS
The Daphne Trojans defeated Baldwin County High School 2-1 in the Hank Aaron Classic on Saturday.
Conner Reese got the win for Daphne, pitching a complete game and striking out six batters.
Brandon Peterson and Jared Olson had RBIs for Daphne in the win.
Jansen Boeschen had Baldwin County’s only run.
