Spanish Fort City Council approves infrastructure projects

Spanish Fort City Council recently approved two infrastructure projects.

The projects, which will address repaving and lighting, were approved during the Nov. 6 regular city council meeting.

REBUILD ALABAMA GRANT

In April, Gov. Kay Ivey announced more than $5.1 million in state funding for cities and counties for road and bridge projects.

The funding is made available through the Annual Grant Program, a program created under the Rebuild Alabama Act that requires the Alabama Department of Transportation to set aside $10 million of the new gas tax revenue for local projects.

Spanish Fort received the 2023 Rebuild Alabama Grant, which will help fund the repaving of portions of General Canby Drive, Southern Way and Signal Hill Road.

John G. Walton Construction Co. Inc. was awarded the project for $282,547.

LIGHTING PROJECT

The Spanish Fort Community Center will soon shine brighter after council approved hiring Inception Lighting for the installation of decorative lighting for $30,036.

The project calls for a single run of lights on 1,158 feet of roofline, including the clock tower. The lights will be LED color-changing lights. The lights come with a five-year comprehensive warranty.
