SPANISH FORT, Ala. — Jack Samsel threw four touchdowns in the first half and finished the night with five TD tosses on The Hill for the Toros (10-1) in a 49-14, first-round win over visiting Pelham in the Class 6A playoffs.
The Spanish Fort quarterback found teammates Jeremiah Hixon twice, Kris Abrams-Draine and Corson Swan who led the Toros’ receiver corps with four catches for 95 yards.
Dayton Reeder caught the Samsel’s fifth touchdown pass in the second half.
Hixon also scored the first home team touchdown on a 7-yard run on the Toros’ opening drive. Connor Hegan added a 39-yard touchdown run for SFHS.
Pelham (5-6) had TD passes from Matthew Rye to Edward Gipson and Xavier Lankford to Brandon Sledge. Lankford also threw to Nicolas Blackburn on a two-point conversion.
Round Two: Spanish Fort will host Sidney Lanier in the second round of the playoffs.
