It’s time for South Baldwin parents to get their soon-to-be kindergartners ready for school by taking part in Thursday’s Kindergarten Registration for Baldwin County Public Schools.
The event is set for 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for those who will attend kindergarten at Foley and Elberta Elementary, and Summerdale and Magnolia schools in the fall.
According to Baldwin County Public Schools Spokesman Terry Wilhite, those students must be 5 years old, on or before Sept. 2, to be eligible to attend public kindergarten.
“Parents should register their child at the school serving their attendance zone,” he said in a news release. “Parents or guardians are encouraged to bring their child when they register so that new kindergarten students may be given a readiness survey.”
Records needed for registration include:
Late registrations, if necessary, will be processed at the local school.
While the number of new kindergarteners won’t be available until after this week’s registration, Baldwin County Public Schools Supervisor of Elementary Educates anticipates an increase over the 532 attending in The Onlooker coverage area this year.
“We see growth every year in Baldwin County, so we usually have an increase in the number of children registering,” she said. “With the recovery from the oil spill and the availability of jobs, we anticipate growth in all areas of the county.”
