South Baldwin Center for Technology celebrates the class of 2022 achievements

Posted

The Baldwin County Coliseum was busy with activity Thursday, April 28, as 205 seniors were recognized for their academic achievements at South Baldwin Center for Technology (SBCT).
Senior Kendall McCovery-Thomas welcomed guests and gave a brief speech about her time at SBCT.

"Today is a very important step toward our future. I am looking forward, excited about the limitless opportunities that await us," McCovery-Thomas said. "Thank you again to all the amazing teachers that have stepped out of their respective field to teach us how to be skilled professionals. The South Baldwin Center for Technology class of 2022 is ready to graduate and take on the world. We started here now we can go anywhere."

Next, Sara Watkins and Daisy Grant from Coastal Alabama Community College recognized students in the dual enrollment program. Watkins said the SBCT senior class took 1,035 credit hours this school year at a savings of $167,670 thanks to a scholarship fund. The students were presented certificates and cords to wear for their high school graduation.

Principal Adam Sealy, guidance counselor Amber Hawkins and instructor Robert Bullock presented the scholarships, honors, awards and certificates. They also recognized the 32 seniors in the National Technical Honor Society and presented them with blue and white cords to wear for their high school graduation.

Teacher of the Year Pam Moreno was also recognized.

Sealy ended the ceremony with a heartfelt speech to the graduating class of 2022.

The Central Baldwin Sunset Rotary presented Destiny Ard and Carol Romero with the Garrett Phillips Memorial Vocational Scholarship in the amount of $3,000.

"Don't let anyone tell you your dreams aren't possible. Your dreams are possible. You do not want to be one of those people 20 years from now walking around in a job angry and bitter because you let your dreams get away from you. This is an unbelievable life and time you are living, and I can't encourage you enough to continue to believe in your dreams and believe things are possible," Sealy said.

"So today I tell you this, just start. Start small. Start with changing tomorrow morning. When you get that squared away you move on to the next day, and on to the next day and continue to move your life in a positive way. You start with one little step, one inch at a time, one little victory at a time, one foot in front of the other. That is the only way to do it. You just begin," Sealy said.

As the ceremony ended students, families, teachers and administrators visited and took photos. The 2022 SBCT seniors will now celebrate their high school graduation with their respective high school senior classes.

SBCT serves students from Robertsdale, Foley, Fairhope, Elberta and Baldwin County Virtual High School. SBCT offers programs in: Fire Science, Automotive Tech, Horticulture, Building Construction, Welding, Health Sciences, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, TV Production and Work Based Learning.
