In a time of unprecedented change, we find ourselves continuously searching for the right companion, the greatest friends, the perfect job, the best car, the most satisfying food.
Particularly, during the holidays, we soulfully search for the right gift. For many people, giving the right present means there is a heart-felt story or connection between the one who gives and the one who receives.
Some gifts do not change with time; yet others are priceless for a given period. Valuable gifts are known to remain important to those who receive them. However, the worth of a gift is quite varied and can be immeasurable. In the pursuit of trying to make loved ones happy, it is very crucial that we are not caught up in the journey of spending money to appease others; particularly if bills and responsibilities are neglected.
It is also important to consider that children remember the experience of cutting down the tree as much as having a tree. They enjoy the surprise of the gifts more than the dollar-value of the gifts. Children also get excited to play games and meet with other family members just as much as they are delighted about being out of school for the holidays. One way to successfully decide what might be best for you and your family to do in regard to the holiday season is to reflect on what has worked in the past. Think about the activities or family trips taken that brought smiles to the faces of your family members and noticeably made them appear excited and happy. Especially, focus on what made that distinct holiday very treasured.
Some family traditions are worth keeping. Others may need a revised plan of action. Some family units become divided and the time spent together feels short-lived. However, effective planning and quality arrangements can make any situation pleasant. Following the wishes of others can be trivial when trying to plan the way you want, but effective teamwork makes for a better scenario.
In turbulent times of economic crises and the potential agony of holiday shopping, there is much merit to the thought of living in the present, learning from the past and creating a better future. One must always focus on what is important and plan with purpose. In hopes to be happier, you must be able to enjoy the “present.” Keep in mind that worry and stress do not allow you to be your best. Also, remember that some of the greatest gifts cannot be purchased.
