The YMCA of South Alabama has named Demonya Womack as the new branch director of The Snook Family YMCA in Foley, bringing a background in youth development, athletics and nonprofit leadership to the growing Baldwin County community.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Womack joins the Foley branch with experience in mentorship, coaching and community engagement, areas that align closely with the organization’s mission, a news release said.

“We are excited to welcome Demonya to the YMCA of South Alabama family,” said CEO of YMCA of South Alabama Gwen Sommer in the release. “His passion for mentorship, community impact, and leadership makes him a great fit for the Snook Family YMCA and the families we serve in Foley.”

Womack was a three-sport student-athlete in football, basketball and track and field before continuing his education and football career at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania. He earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in public relations and advertising before later earning a master’s degree in sports management from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Womack has focused on coaching, mentorship and collaborative leadership, emphasizing the importance of community-building through service and personal development.

His professional background includes work with the Charlotte Hornets organization, where he helped oversee grassroots youth basketball camps across North and South Carolina. He has also held leadership and management positions with several nonprofit organizations, including three nationally recognized Top Ten youth nonprofits in the United States.

“I’m excited to join the YMCA of South Alabama and become part of the Foley community,” Womack said. “I look forward to building relationships, serving families, and creating a positive impact throughout the community.”

The appointment comes as Baldwin County continues to experience rapid population growth, increasing demand for youth programs, wellness services and community-centered organizations. YMCA leaders said Womack’s experience in athletics and nonprofit management will help support the branch’s continued outreach efforts and programming for local families.

Outside of work, Womack enjoys sports, coaching youth and high school athletics, public speaking and traveling. After spending several years in northern climates, he said he is looking forward to returning to the Gulf Coast and enjoying the area’s beaches, food and community atmosphere.

The YMCA of South Alabama is a nonprofit organization serving communities across the Gulf Coast through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility programs. Services include youth sports, childcare, aquatics, wellness initiatives, senior programs and financial assistance opportunities for families and individuals.

Community members are encouraged to visit The Snook Family YMCA and welcome Womack during his first weeks in Foley.
