Margaret Anne Smith, 89, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008.

She was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Montgomery. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores, where she was their first female elder. She was Regent of the Fort Bowyer Chaper DAR, president of the Friends of the Library, member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and was honored as a life member of the Presbyterian Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Davenport Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Missy (Randy) Schmitt of Pensacola, Fla., and Susan (Pete) Clark of Tuscaloosa; three granddaughters, Elizabeth (Aaron) Boyette of Tallahassee, Fla., Meg Clark and Addie Clark of Tuscaloosa.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 30 at First Presbyterian Church, Gulf Shores, with a reception following the service.

The family requests memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, Gulf Shores.

Arrangements were made by Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, Fla.
