SloPoker run for Children's Miracle Network Oct. 6

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Third Annual SloPoker Run, to benefit The Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s and Women’s Hospital of South Alabama, will take place Saturday Oct. 6 on the waterways of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

The SloPoker Run is created around the concept of friends and family enjoying a day on the water together, raising funds for a great cause, The Children’s Miracle Network. The course layout was designed with stops at 12 local restaurants and marinas. It can be completed by boats of all types, running at leisurely speeds.

Entry is $50 per hand and the top hand wins $1,000, second place $750 and third place $500. In addition, there are plenty of other prizes for the participants.

Although the event was designed to be run by water, participants can run the course by land as well. The course may be completed in any order, and a contestant must hit at least five of 12 stops to earn a poker hand. The event will end at Barber Marina with a cookout and a live band for entertainment. This event is not your typical Poker Run, and we have some interesting twists to keep you on your toes. It is not about who has the fastest boat, the loudest exhaust or the fastest time. I

t is about who will end the day with the best poker hand and take the $1,000 first prize.

Event coordinator, P.J. Howard had this to say about the upcoming event.

“With the wonderful support of companies like Suzuki Marine, and sponsors, RE/MAX of Orange Beach and Paradise Marine Center, this event will continue to grow and become a real community event,” he said. “In addition we have many co-sponsors throughout the community that have more than proven their generosity. The public also should realize that funds raised locally, for CMN, are distributed locally to Women and Children’s Hospital in Mobile.”

Registration is $50 per hand and the forms can be printed out or completed online at www.slopokerrun.com.

You may also find the Slopoker run information on Facebook at Facebook.com/slopokerrun.

In addition, each participant who purchases an entry, will receive and official T-shirt and tote bag.
