MOBILE, Alabama --- A Silverhill man pleaded guilty in Federal court last week to charges stemming from a Dec. 13, 2011 arrest by Gulf Shores Police.

Bruce Jason Klein, 37, was arrested in December by Gulf Shores Police after a traffic stop on Highway 59, according to a release from the Gulf Shores Police Department.

GSPD conducted a surveillance operation and the credit card skimming operation was uncovered on Dec. 12. Klein was stopped and taken into custody without incident at 1:09 a.m. on Dec. 13.

Credit card skimming is the theft of credit card information used in an otherwise legitimate transaction.

“Klein’s methods were advanced in that he was using a small electronic device (skimmer) to swipe and store victim’s credit card information,” it was stated in the release. “This device was being used in conjunction with a miniature camera inconspicuously attached to the ATM.  The camera was used to read the user’s PIN.”

According to Baldwin County Corrections records, Klein was booked into the Baldwin County Jail on Dec. 14 on felony identity theft charges, later released on $10,000 bond.

He was booked again on April 5 as a Federal inmate and detainer for hold for the U.S. Marshall’s Service on two counts of violation of a release order.

On Tuesday, May 15, Klein pleaded guilty in a Federal court. His sentencing is scheduled for August.

Gulf Shores Police Chief Edward Delmore would especially like to thank the U.S. Secret Service in Mobile for their assistance on this case.
