SILVERHILL — The Silverhill Veterans Memorial Organization hosted its annual Veterans Day service Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial in Silverhill.

The event included a flag presentation by SVMO members Mike Girard, Danny Murphy and Pat Burke with the singing of the National Anthem, led by Leroy Hughes and the Baldwin County Home School Choir, who also sang a pair of patriotic songs for the event.

Veteran Ed Evans was guest speaker, telling of his experience representing Alabama at the 2021 Purple Heart Patriot Project Mission held in September in New York.

The event also recognized veterans of each branch of service with the playing of each military branch theme song.

Charles and Debbie Lacoste raffled off a pair of hand-made lap blankets. Winners were Margaret Long (accepted by Steve Long) and Dave Harkins. The raffle raised more than $500 for the Veterans Memorial Organization.

Opening and closing prayers were presented by the Rev. Paul Kinney with the Silverhill Zion Lutheran Church. Mayor Jared Lyles welcomed guests and SVMO President Frankie Kucera introduced speakers. The event concluded with taps played by Joel Sterling.
