SILVERHILL, Alabama — The Town of Silverhill passed a pair of resolutions at its meeting Monday night.
First, the town passed Resolution 493-5-6-2013 to surplus equipment and personal property owned by the town.
The list included 19 items, including two police cars, a Gator four-wheeled utility vehicle, playground equipment, backhoe bucket and fork, a box blade, a wooden pole, an aluminum light pole, a boring machine, lawn tools, windows, a door, three electric motors, a chain link fence, two air compressors, a pressure washer, and a conference table and chairs.
Surplus items are placed on a government website, govdeals.com and auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The second resolution, 494-5-6-2013 authorized the submission of a pre-application to ADECA requesting a Recreational Trails Program grant for use to construct a walking trail at Oscar Johnson Park.
Property adjacent to the park was donated to the town for that purpose. The proposed grant would pay 80 percent or $100,000 of the proposed project costs estimated at $125,000. The town would be required to match the remaining funds through cash or in-kind donations and services, according to the proposal.
Since both resolutions were introduced at Monday’s council meeting, the council first voted to suspend the rules, then voted unanimously to approve the resolutions by roll-call vote. Council member Wayne Gruenloh was not present at the meeting.
A third resolution, 492-5-6-2013, regarding the town of Silverhill’s senior lunch social program, was tabled to clarify information provided in the resolution.
In other business Monday, the council:
• Approved the purchase of a copy machine for Town Hall, along with a service and supply agreement from Dex Imaging Inc. at a cost of $6,810 plus tax.
• Approved a three-year insurance agreement from Blackmon Insurance Co. The company presented a proposal for a one-year agreement to the town, but the council approved a three-year agreement after it was decided that doing so would provide a cost savings to the town.
• Approved a contract with Chempro to provide brush spraying at Oscar Johnson Park at a cost of $1,138. The initial cost would be an annual rate, with additional spraying provided at a cost of $388 per treatment.
• Agreed to provide assistance for the annual Angel Ride which will be held Nov. 2.
• Set a meeting to discuss the town’s annual audit for Thursday, May 9 at 5:30 p.m.
