Clenton Allen Shumack, 83, a native of Monroe County and a longtime resident of Silverhill, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II during which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked at Brookley Field before going into business as a private contractor throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties; served as the city inspector for Silverhill for several years; built the Galilee Primitive Baptist Church in Stapleton where he served as Pastor for many years;and was a farmer and cattleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Allen Shumack and Mary Frances Rhodes Shumack; wife, Flora Shumack; son Richard Shumack; and eight siblings, Calvin Mose Shumack, Chester Jesse Shumack, Unie Veigh Shumack Dean, Clevie Lee Shumack, Crystal King Shumack, Colonial Scott Shumack, Ubie Dean Shumack Watson and Monsie Earl Shumack Solomon.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Shumack of Spanish Fort; son, Bobby Shumack of Silverhill; siblings, Ulma Reen Shumack Raybon, Allen Darius “Dock” Shumack and Letha Shumack Beall; step-daughter, Mary Ann Napper; step-son, Phillip (Janette) Stanford; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 7 at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. Graveside services followed at Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile.

Arrangements were made by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory, Robertsdale.
