ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The third of four Shining Star camps was held Wednesday through Friday, July 25-27 at Central Baldwin Middle School in Robertsdale. This is the 10th anniversary of the camps, which is hosted by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department’s School Resource and Community Relations Division.
Wednesday’s activities included a BCSO K-9 Demo, drone demo and Mounted Posse demo, along with firearms safety, and presentations by the Robertsdale Fire Department, MedStar Ambulance and AirOne helicopter unit and a wildlife safety demo by Wes Moore, owner of Alligator Alley in Summerdale.
Thursday’s activities included a Taser demonstration by the Sheriff’s Office of Corrections; drug awareness by the Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division; disaster preparedness by Baldwin County EMA; Federal Bureau of Investigations Evidence Response Team and Live Wire on Wheels demonstration by Baldwin EMC.
Friday included field day activities, BB Range; Debakey Drug Education Bus, magic by Bruce Walstad and team building with BCSO chaplains.
The final Shining Star camp will be held Aug. 1-3 at Fairhope Intermediate School with an end-of-summer family day, which will include participants from all four camps, Saturday, Aug. 4 at Fairhope Intermediate.
