FOLEY, Ala. - The fifth annual Sheriff Taylor Wilkins Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on April 16 at Glenlakes Golf Course in Foley.

The tournament, which benefits the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranches and the Boys Ranch in Summerdale, is a four-member scramble event. Lunch and beverages will be provided before the tournament, which will tee off at 1 p.m. There also will be door prizes.

"We have 20 teams signed up so far," Barbie Day, office manager for the Civic Affairs branch of the sheriff's office, said. "We can take up to 23 teams."

The cost to register is $500 per team.

"We would like to have the teams registered by tomorrow, but they can show up if they choose to," Day said. "We'd love to know in advance."

Wilkins serves as Baldwin County Sheriff from 1947 to 1975, and he served on the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranch System Board of Directors. He played a major role in the creation of the Boys Ranch on County Road 32 in Summerdale. The ranch houses around 12 boys who range in age from 6 to 18 years old.

The tournament began in 2007 and has raised over $100,000. Hole sponsorships and teams still are being accepted for the event.
