Sharing passions and talents can be life altering

Thoughts from the Heart

I had an epiphany last week. As I was accomplishing my daily chores of schooling my children, writing articles and driving around different areas of the county, I was just in awe of the many people we have with so much talent. It is truly amazing how so many living all over Alabama have developed their God-given gifts to share with others.

From every form of artwork, to books, music, clothing design, food, science and so much more, we see the results of their passion, and it improves our lives. It is everywhere. Look around at the architecture of buildings, the sculptures on the sidewalks, the terrific restaurants with many food offerings, performances of music and theater and the diversity of museums showcasing all areas of life.

One of the best ways to de-stress yourself and boost your self-esteem is to develop a talent or passion you think has been an interest to you. As it has been reported in several different studies of those who do share their talents and passions and especially attain a goal that has been an ongoing project; this helps you connect with people, and it is beneficial to both the person sharing and to those receiving. This experience can be life altering.

Here in Baldwin County, many activities and events take place in the autumn that showcase so many of these wonderful crafts and capabilities. One of my favorite places to visit is Fairhope’s First Friday event every month as there is much to see, hear and taste during the hours of 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the downtown streets of that city. First Friday rolls around again next week on Oct. 7.

Also taking place that weekend is the Grand Festival of Art. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 7-8, the works of more than 100 artists will be featured in street booths in downtown Fairhope.

At the same time, the Grand Festival of Books, sponsored by the Page and Palette book store, will take place in Fairhope.

On Oct. 8 the Fairhope campus of Faulkner State Community College campus in Fairhope welcomes the annual Bird and Conservation Expo, which will include a family friendly day of live raptors and other birds, touch tanks, snakes, birdhouse and bird feeder constructions, exhibits, vendors and other artists with more from different divisions of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

We truly live in an amazing time and place filled with amazing folks.
