GULF SHORES — The USSSA United States Specialty Sports Association got its fifth Global Sports Baseball World Series of the summer under way Wednesday at the Gulf Shores SportsPlex. The Spanish Fort 13-U Toros travel club is one of the teams representing the home-sweet-home state of Alabama. The Toros fell hard in their opener 10-0 to the D-Bats of Dallas, Texas.
The Toros players are Lee Avinger, Grant Betts, Harrison Biggs, Pearson Cockrell, John Tyler Fillingim, Zach Hansen, John Edward King, Bailey Knox, John Lassiter, Chandler Passons, Jackson Rogers and Seth Shirley. The four-day tournament event is hosted by the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission (GSOBSC) and continues through Saturday.
