Seven players, three coaches from Baldwin County named to AHSAA All-Star roster

Tuesday, the Alabama High School Athletic Association announced the rosters for the 64th North-South All-Star game set for Dec. 16 at Mobile’s Hancock Whitney Stadium. Seven players and three coaches will represent Baldwin County among Alabama’s best.

Foley and Spanish Fort each had two players and a coach selected to the roster, Baldwin County had one player and one administrative coach chosen and Fairhope and Orange Beach each had a lone player recognized.

While the other teams have all had double-digit representatives in the all-star game, the Makos’ Chris Pearson becomes the school’s first AHSAA All-Star.

The South leads the all-time series 32-30-2 but the North All-Stars won last year’s contest 14-10. This year’s contest is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the AHSAA TV and NFHS Networks.

“We have an abundance of talent in our state each year, and both teams selected reflect that talent,” AHSAA Director Brandon Dean said in the roster release. “We are looking forward to another exciting game this December.”

Foley: AJ Prim, Cam Schultz, coach Deric Scott

Representing the Class 7A Foley Lions on the field will be linebacker AJ Prim and two-way lineman Cameron Schultz, who serve as the program’s 29th and 30th representatives named to the all-star game.

Foley head coach Deric Scott will also be on the South All-Star coaching staff.

Spanish Fort: Yorell Williams, Jake Godfrey, coach Chase Smith

Similarly from Spanish Fort, defensive lineman Yorell Williams and wide receiver Jake Godfrey will represent the Class 6A Toros on the field with head coach Chase Smith also on the coaching staff.

It’s the third straight year Spanish Fort has earned two all-star selections, and this pair marks the program’s 12th and 13th players named to the South All-Star roster.

Baldwin County: DJ Jackson, coach Mark Heaton

For the second year in a row, Baldwin County’s Mark Heaton was named an administrative assistant coach on the South All-Star staff. Last year, he was joined by athlete Tiaquelin Mims and this year defensive back DJ Jackson will join him in representing the Tigers.

Overall, Jackson serves as Baldwin County’s 26th AHSAA All-Star.

Fairhope: Caden Creel

Fairhope’s lone representative in this year’s all-star contest, quarterback Caden Creel, will be familiar with his quarterback counterpart on the South squad as the Pirates will face the Auburn Tigers and fellow signal-caller Clyde Pittman in the first round of the playoffs this Friday night.

Creel also becomes his team’s 30th all-star representative in Fairhope’s program history, which dates back to 1931 according to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society.

Orange Beach: Chris Pearson

While Orange Beach hasn’t been playing varsity football as long as other county teams, Chris Pearson’s selection makes him the first Mako to be an AHSAA All-Star in the school’s third varsity season.

Before the season, head coach Jamey DuBose said he wanted the UAB commit to earn the Class 4A Back of the Year, and this could just be a precursor to that recognition.
