DAPHNE, Ala. — “National Assisted Living Week” will take place Sept. 12-18 in Daphne, and the Gardens of Daphne Assisted Living Home will have special events all week to celebrate.

Mayor Fred Small declared the theme of this year’s week “A Fair to Remember.”

A letter from the mayor’s office sent to The Gardens says that this year’s theme “provides us the opportunity to celebrate the customs, joys, thrills and excitement of our state and local fairs and fair events that bring communities together.”

The purpose of National Assisted Living Week is to highlight and celebrate the role assisted-living centers play in the community and to show how senior citizens can maintain a positive quality of life with the public’s help. The week is celebrated nationally.

“We will have a grandparents’ day luncheon on Sunday, Sept. 12 and special activities throughout the week,” said Trudi Hume, administrator at The Gardens.

There will be a pet ministry coming from St. James Episcopal Church at 10 a.m Sept. 18. The church group will bring pets to spend time with the center’s residents.

The Hearts of Harmony will come to sing at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Jubilee Pickers, a musical group, will come at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 16. A watermelon social will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 18. All Gardens residents, family members and sponsors are invited to attend any of the events during the week.

The Gardens of Daphne is located at 1307 Daphne Ave. For more information about events during the week, call 625-0802.
