MOBILE, Ala. — The Schumann Music Club of Mobile will present a concert with the theme "Patriotism and Politics: 110 Years of Political Rally Songs" on Sept. 28, at 2 p.m., at the Spring Hill Presbyterian Church, 10 Westminster Way, Mobile, and repeated verbatim a week later (Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.) at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship, 1150 Fairhope Ave.
The Schumann Showcase Singers, composed of club members, will present choral renditions of the rally songs, some well-known, others not as well-known, and there will be solos by Melba Brown, Bob Wakeman, and Valerie Swingle Ellis.
Local historian and author, and club historian, Michael Thomason, has researched various aspects of presidential candidates through the years, and narrators will include Fred Baldwin and Cris Smith. Piano accompaniments will be provided by Baldwin, Charmein Moser, and Paulette Clark.
Program leaders are Melba Brown and Charmein Moser. The Schumann Club, founded in 1894, is a member of the Alabama and National Federations of Music Clubs.
