Page & Palette in Fairhope has announced that New York Times best-selling author Patricia Schultz will present her latest travel guide, 1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die, Saturday, June 23, from 2-4 p.m.
Two local favorites, the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa and the Wash House Restaurant, are listed in Schultz’s new book.
Attendees will have a chance to win a gift certificate for a one-night stay at the famous hotel and certificates to dine at the Wash House.
Travel writer and author Schultz revolutionized the way we think about travel with her runaway New York Times best-seller, 1,000 Places to See Before You Die. Now she turns her sharp eye to our own continent with her latest release.
Even the most discerning travelers will discover that true gems are often hidden right in front of us, waiting to be discovered. Just imagine sailing the Maine Windjammers out of Camden, exploring the gold-mining trails in Alaska’s Denali wilderness, collecting exotic shells on the beaches of Captiva, or visiting the ice hotel in Quebec.
For every city, there are dozens of unexpected suggestions and essential destinations.
When asked why she decided to take a break from her globetrotting ways and focus closer to home, Schultz said, “When my backyard is the USA and Canada — with a great and diversified landmass and rich mosaic of heritages — the pickings don’t get any better than these.”
Written in Schultz’s contagious signature style, each entry conveys a vivid sense of place, historical narratives, unique tips and practical information.
1,000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die is organized by region, and subject-specific indices in the back sort the book by interest — wilderness, great dining, best beaches, world-class museums, sports and adventures, road trips and more.
There is also an index that breaks out the best destinations for families with children.
Schultz is the executive producer of the Travel Channel’s television show based on her international bestseller, “1,000 Places to See Before You Die.”
A veteran journalist with 25 years of experience, she has written for Frommer’s, Berlitz and Access travel guides, as well as Condé Nast Traveler, Islands and Harper’s Bazaar. Her home base is New York City.
