Otto A. Schroeder, 91, a native of Elberta and a resident of Arlington, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at a hospital in Frisco, Texas.
He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Elberta, the son of Herman and Louise Schroeder. After leaving Foley High School in 1934, he pursued a career as a Contract painter. In 1941, he met and married Irene Hardy of Jasper and they raised four children.
In 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman and sharpshooter in both the U.S. and overseas. For his actions, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), one Overseas Service Bar and Victory Ribbon.
He was an active Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Arlington as well as in Bonham. He was a current member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. He was also a Life Member of The American Legion and had many other affiliations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Louise Schroeder, former wife, Irene Schroeder in 2003, son, Daniel Bruce Schroeder in 2006, seven brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, Bryan Schroeder; two daughters, Barbara (James Michael) Hillsman and Paulette (Bobby) Janca; brother, Ernest Schroeder; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment was held Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane A.
