DAPHNE, Ala. — On June 26, at Daphne United Methodist Church, The Shoulder Alumni Association presents a night of praise and worship to benefit The Shoulder.
The association hopes not only to raise funds that the substance-abuse rehab center can use to continue to grant scholarships and financial aid, but also to create more awareness of The Shoulder’s ministry.
A breakdown of events is as follows.
<4:30 pm: The evening kicks off with a cook-out. An organization called “Cooks for Christ” has agreed to donate its time and equipment to cook for everyone and their families. In 2005 right after Hurricane Katrina, these men and women drove to New Orleans to do their part to minister to those in need, and the group was born.
<5:30 p.m.: A local “Southern Gospel” artist, Richard Hebert, performs standards along with some of his own songs.
<7 p.m.: Phillip Drane, executive director of The Shoulder, and a member of the Alumni Association, will take the stage to thank everyone for coming. The Shoulder will then welcome The Brighter, a group of six young men from the local area who have a deep passion for the Lord. Their music has ministered to the hearts of many here in Baldwin County.
After 45 minutes of worship, Liberty will take to the stage. The group comprises three men, two of whom are former clients of The Shoulder. They minister in Alabama’s prison system for Bay Community’s Care Department. They will deliver their testimony, which will be followed by deeper worship.
Before the last song of the evening organizers plan to take a love offering.
“We pray that the people in attendance will find it in their hearts to support The Shoulder and The Alumni Association, so that we may further our primary purpose: to keep the doors of The Shoulder open to men in need of recovery,” a spokesperson said.
The night is geared toward the whole family and anyone that wants to attend.
About the Alumni Association
The Alumni Association was formed seven months ago by a handful of former clients, with the hope of doing their part to keep the doors of The Shoulder open to men in need of recovery.
The Shoulder offers a sliding scale for low- to no-income clients and it is only through private donations and grants that this is possible.
