Sarah Cooper is the one of the Spanish teachers at Fairhope High School.
“I teach freshman and sophomores who are planning to enroll in the International Baccalaureate program,” Cooper says. “I also teach regular Spanish. I have freshman through seniors, so I have a wide range of students.”
Before she came to Fairhope, Cooper taught Spanish I at a school outside of New Orleans in Hahnville, Louisiana.
To Cooper, becoming a teacher was evident.
“I’ve always loved languages,” Cooper says. “I took Spanish I through III and French in high school. I didn’t want a job at a desk translating, and every woman in my family is a teacher.”
Cooper’s favorite part about teaching is getting to know her students. She and nine of her students traveled to Costa Rica in June.
“I love getting to travel with them and see them transform from the beginning of the trip to the end,” she says.
When Cooper isn’t teaching, she competes with CrossFit Yellowhammer in Daphne and enjoys traveling during the summer.
