Jennie “Sis” Brantley Clopton Mattingly Sanders, born March 20, 1929 in Foley, died peacefully on Jan. 10, 2010 at a local hospital.
She was the second of eight children born to Lealon and Ella Mae Brantley.
She was a long time resident of Orange Beach, where she, along with her second husband Henry Mattingly, ran the Bear Point Marina. After his death she went to work at the Gulf Gate Lodge where she was loved by many and respected by all. She retired in 1997 and moved back to Foley in 2003, where she was a member of Magnolia Springs Baptist Church. For the past year she has been a resident of Golden Living Nursing Home.
Special thanks to William F. Barry, her brother-in-law, for acting as her guardian, keeping track of all her medical and legal records and adding greatly to her quality of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands and four brothers.
Survivors include three children, Wallace R. (Katherine) Clopton of Bay Minette, Marsha (Barry) Montee of Foley and Donnie Mattingly of Rifle, Colo.; two sisters, BettyAnn (Bill) Barry of Foley and Bonnie Guest of Paris, Texas; brother, Freddie Brantley of Beaumont, Texas; six grandchildren, Cash and Blakely Clopton, Tiffany and Lindsay Montee, Kristin and Eric Mattingly; seven great-grandchildren, many more nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Sadly she watched as many of her friends pass away before her, but Myrtle remained devoted to the end.
Pallbearers at the service were Mac Coward, William Barry Jr., Shawn Gibb, Billy McKinley, Capt. John Stewart and Gary Pierce.
