In short, men are dying too soon. Our brothers, fathers, cousins and friends are being taken from our lives due to largely preventable causes.

The Movember foundation is aiming to change the face of men’s health by raising funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health and suicide, by way of the upper lip.

Mo Bros and Mo Sistas around the world host events, move and grow their moustaches for the month of November to help change the face of men’s health.

For me personally, it knocks out two birds with one stone where my dad, who beat prostate cancer when I was in college, has always rocked just a moustache my whole life and is chief among the “cool guys with a moustache.”

Now, for the seventh fall, I’m trying my hand at using my genetics to rock a moustache comparable to my dad’s while having fun and doing good throughout the month.

The Movember foundation has been raising funds and awareness since 2003 so I can only claim I contributed to more recent advancements made in cancer and mental health research. But there have been great strides made across the more than 1,250 projects Movember has already funded and with your help, even more headway can be made.

Over the month, I’ll have a weekly installment talking about one cause that Movember funding has helped create. Visit Gulf Coast Media Sports on Facebook for the full video of my beard’s funeral and stay tuned for more on how Movember has helped change the face of men’s health and what plans it has moving forward.
