Retired Navy Seabee Rothwell Carlisle Smith III passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012.
He was born in Mobile, on July 21, 1940. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joy Snyder Smith; daughter, Janean (Steve) Frazier of Little Rock Ark; sons, Carl (Laura) Smith of Bon Secour, and Brent (Lillian) Smith of Nashville, Tenn; grandchildren, Jessie Smith of Silverhill, Genna, Maisy and Ivy Smith of Nashville, Tenn; his brother, Glenn (Elaine) Smith and nephews, Chris and Tommy Smith. He is greatly missed by his “four-legged children” Squirrelly, Sassy and Rambo. While living in Orange Beach, he was very active in the Orange Beach Volunteer Fire Dept. and had the honor of serving as Volunteer Fire Chief until being called back to active military duty to Gulfport, Miss., during Desert Storm. He and Joy spent over 15 years “full-time” RV-ing and ended up in Milton, where he met many dear friends. There will be a memorial saervice celebrating his life on April 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery at Pensacola Naval Air Station.
