Rotary District 6880 raises $7.5 million for shared endowment fund

Posted

Rotary International District 6880, which serves communities from Montgomery to the Gulf Coast and west to the Wiregrass region of Alabama, has raised $7.5 million for its District Shared Endowment Fund, a milestone leaders say will support service efforts for generations.

District officials said the achievement reflects a collective commitment from Rotarians across the region who embrace service above self. Through coordinated leadership, long-term planning and a shared mission, members worked together to establish a permanent financial foundation intended to sustain future projects, a news release said.

The Shared Endowment Fund is a permanently invested account designed to generate ongoing earnings. Rather than using the principal, the fund’s investment income will be distributed annually to support service initiatives, allowing Rotary District 6880 to maintain long-term funding for community projects and expand its reach in South Alabama.

Earnings from the fund will support a broad range of efforts, including community development projects such as parks, public spaces and infrastructure improvements; education and youth programs including scholarships, literacy initiatives and leadership development; health and wellness initiatives including access to care, mental health support and disease prevention; disaster relief and recovery during crises; and economic development and workforce readiness programs aimed at strengthening local communities.

District leaders said the fund will allow clubs to take a more proactive approach to service by pursuing larger projects that address critical needs across the region rather than responding only to immediate demands.

"This achievement demonstrates what is possible when we work together with a shared vision," District leadership said in the release. "The power of us is strong in District 6880. By coming together to create this endowment, we are ensuring that Rotary's impact in South Alabama will continue to grow and serve our communities for years to come."

Rotary District 6880 said it remains focused on advancing positive and lasting change through service, leadership and collaboration. The $7.5 million Shared Endowment Fund represents what leaders describe as both a financial milestone and a long-term investment in the region’s future.
