C.Benjamin Ross, 72, a native of LaGrande, Ore., and a resident of Foley, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 after fighting a gallant battle to survive a lengthy illness. His loving wife was by his side.
He served eight years in the U.S. Navy and later made his home in LaGrande. he was a true “outdoorsman,” an avid hunter as well as going fishing as often as possible. He also liked to garden at his home in Foley and was especially fond of the roses he had planted.
He greatly admired John Wayne and as a youth, he was an extra in a western movie titled “Pillars of the Sky” which starred Jeff Chandler, Dorothy Malone, Ward Bond and Lee Marvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Ross and Clara Ross; two brothers and two sisters.
He will be mised very much by family and friends in Oregon, Virginia and Foley.
Survivors include his beloved “Little One,” Audrey Ann Ross; daughter, Lauryn; son, Bill; five grandchildren and three step-sons.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at Barrancas National Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain the Rev. Michael Bonham officiating.
