Page & Palette Bookstore, 32 S. Section St. in Fairhope, will present an evening with New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Chris Rose on Friday, Sept. 7, from 6-8 p.m. Rose will read and sign his new book 1 Dead in Attic: After Katrina.
The book is a collection of Rose’s Pulitzer Prize-winning essays recounting the first harrowing year and a half of life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
After years of covering national politics, economics, Southern regionalism, pop culture and New Orleans nightlife, traditions, lifestyles and entertainment in the Times-Picayune, Rose became as he puts it, a war correspondent. He turned his column into a call to arms for the people of New Orleans to unite together to fight for the survival of the city and its culture.
Rose’s columns began to chronicle the chaos, horror and eventual sorrow that consumed the city as it struggled — and struggles still — to rebuild its neighborhoods and its unique culture.
The topical, emotional stories he tells are a testament to the resilience, enduring spirit and uniquely joyous character of the people as they’ve coped with a world of physical and emotional devastation.
