Robertsdale High School recently appointed Drew Ellis as the new director of bands, bringing an extensive record of musical achievement and military service to the Golden Bear Band program.
Ellis, who graduated from Enterprise High School, holds a bachelor's degree in music from Auburn University and a master's degree in music education from Troy University. Throughout his career, his ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings and best-in-class honors at festivals and competitions across Alabama.
More recently, Ellis served as the director of bands at Spain Park High School. There, he led the marching band, chamber winds and jazz ensemble. His previous experience includes four years as an assistant director at Saraland High School and three years serving as the director of bands at Samson Middle and High School.
"His proven record of musical excellence, student leadership and commitment to education make him an outstanding fit for our students, school and community," representatives of the Robertsdale Band Booster Club said in a recent press release.
Outside of the classroom, Ellis maintains a portfolio of drill writing and music arranging for marching bands statewide. He also served 12 years in the Alabama National Guard, including 10 years as a commissioned officer and commander of the 1-117th Field Artillery's Battery C.
Ellis is also a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association for Music Education and the Alabama Bandmasters Association.
He will relocate from Sterrett to central Baldwin County with his wife, Ashley, their two daughters and dog, Penny.
The Robertsdale High School Golden Bear Band serves hundreds of student musicians. It is considered one of the premier music programs in South Alabama.
