ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Truck Equipment of Mobile came away the winner as the City of Robertsdale accepted their $114,123 bid on a new trash loader truck at the City Council meeting on Monday morning.
Scott Gilbert, City of Robertsdale public works director, said they should be able to take possession of the 2010 International/Peterson truck by mid-January as the current truck will pay off in December. The new truck will have a different motor but the chassis and the loader and bin will be exactly the same as the current truck, Gilbert said.
Of the four bids that came in, Ingram Equipment of Pelham had the lowest at $111,723 but Gilbert said there were several things about the truck they couldn’t accept and it didn’t meet the minimum specifications they were looking for. “They also needed to move the truck within 10 days and we couldn’t do that so that’s why we went with the other bid.”
Ingram Equipment also had a Kenworth/Pac Mac bid for $114,795 and Kenworth of Mobile rounded out the bids with a Kenworth/Peterson for $124,875. Gilbert said the trucks need to be replaced every five years and they have to have three operating in the yard at all times.
In other business, the council discussed placing an ad in the special section of the Baldwin Register commemorating Thomas Hospital’s 50th Anniversary on Sept. 19, 2010, but a motion was not made so no action was taken on the matter.
