SUMMERDALE, Ala. — Robertsdale Police arrested Billy Trent Thornton, 45, of Hardin Lane in Summerdale, on Monday night around 9 p.m. and charged him with third degree burglary, first degree theft of property and fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.
Thornton was transported to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette where he is being held on $17,500 bond.
Sgt. Rex Bishop, Robertsdale Police Department chief investigator, said Thornton had burglarized a residence on County Road 83 on Friday, January 21, and took weapons, jewelry, electronics and a safe. They had issued a felony warrant for him and were actively looking for him when he used a stolen debit/credit card at the ABC Store in Foley on Sunday.
Bishop said Thornton showed up at the Hardin Lane residence on Monday afternoon firing shots in the air from a high-powered rifle. A call was made to the Summerdale Police Department and they responded along with the RPD. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Response Team was also called because of weapons being present at the scene.
Bishop said the area was secured and Thornton was arrested without incident or injury. Also present at the scene was Christopher Maier, 23, Thornton’s son, and Sequoya Elinor Furra, 21, Thornton’s girlfriend and mother of their two -month old infant. No one inside the residence was injured and the infant was successfully removed from the home and turned over to a family member, Bishop said.
Maier and Furru were also arrested on Tuesday morning around 9 a.m. and taken to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette. Maier was charged with third degree burglary and first degree theft of property and is being held on $12,500 bond. Furra is being charged with third degree burglary and held on $12,500 bond.
It is not known yet if Thornton was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of arrest and as the investigation continues, Bishop said more charges against Thornton will be forthcoming.
All the items have been recovered from the burglary, except a gun, Bishop said, but the gun Thornton used at the scene on Tuesday was not the one stolen from the residence.
Bishop said they had been to Hardin Lane a few other times in the past and made arrests but Thornton did not have any prior arrests with the RPD.
